What to Send Your Process Server

Most delays come from missing information, not from the person being served. This checklist covers what to send so the first attempt can be the last one.

The papers

  • The issued summons or citation, signed and sealed by the clerk, not a draft.
  • The complaint or petition and every attachment the summons lists.
  • One set for each person to be served.
  • Any court order about how service must be made, if your court issued one.
  • Your court's return-of-service form, if it has its own.

The person

  • Full name exactly as it appears on the papers.
  • Home address with apartment or unit number, and the gate or building name.
  • Work address and hours, if you know them.
  • A recent photo or a description: age, height, hair, glasses.
  • Car make, color and plate, if you know them.
  • Best times to find them home, and anyone else who lives there.

For a business

  • The exact company name and its registered agent from Sunbiz.
  • The registered agent's address and the company's office address.

Common questions

Do I need to send the original papers?

For a Miami-Dade case, an upload of the issued papers is usually enough to start. If your court requires originals, tell us when you order.

What if I only have an old address?

Send it with anything else you know, like a work address or a schedule. If attempts show the person moved, we stop and tell you instead of using up attempts.

Does a photo of the person help?

Yes. A recent photo or description helps the server identify the right person, which the affidavit has to describe.

How do I send everything?
