Serve Papers on CT Corporation in Florida

When a company's Florida registered agent is CT Corporation System, we deliver your summons, subpoena or other process to its registered office in Plantation, during the hours the office accepts service, and return a notarized affidavit for each company.

Who CT Corporation is, and why your papers go there

CT Corporation System is a commercial registered agent. Thousands of corporations and LLCs that do business in Florida name it as the agent that receives lawsuits and other legal papers for them. Its Florida registered office is at 1200 South Pine Island Road in Plantation, in Broward County.

Florida law lets process on a business be served on its registered agent (section 48.081). So when you sue a company whose agent is CT Corporation, the papers usually go to Plantation, even if the company's stores or offices are in Miami-Dade or somewhere else in the state.

How to address the papers

CT Corporation is the registered agent, not the party. CT's own service-of-process guidance says the summons, subpoena or garnishment should name its customer (the company) as the defendant, garnishee or respondent, addressed to that company c/o CT Corporation System, 1200 South Pine Island Road, Plantation, FL 33324, and not to CT Corporation itself. Papers that name CT as the party are a common reason a serve has to be redone.

Subpoenas for records: CT also says it is not a custodian of records for the companies it represents. It forwards the subpoena to the company; the records come from the company, not from CT.

Check the registered agent first

Search the company on Sunbiz, the Florida Division of Corporations site. The company's detail page shows the registered agent's name and address. If it reads CT Corporation System, send us a copy of that page with your papers. We check it again before we go, because companies do change agents.

When the office accepts service

Under section 48.091, a registered office has to be open at least from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, except legal holidays, with someone there who can accept service. We plan every delivery inside those windows, so the trip is not wasted.

How the delivery is handled

  • One visit, several companies. If you have papers for more than one company that uses CT Corporation, we deliver them together.
  • A separate affidavit for each company. Each set is logged and sworn to on its own, so each case file gets its own proof.
  • The person who accepted. The affidavit names the person who took the papers for the registered agent, with the date, time and address.
  • GPS and photo record. The delivery is logged in our field app with the time, the GPS point and a photo of the location.

The notarized affidavit appears in your client portal as soon as it is signed. Read what a Florida affidavit of service contains.
